ActiType

ActiType is a XSL formatting application. To format you simply copy documents into the folder (hot folder) and get formatted documents from it. ActiType monitors file system folder and formats files placed in it according configuration rules. It detects documents by file extension. ActiType also supports documents with XSLT stylesheets. For example you can configure ActiType to monitor C:\Temp folder and format XSLFO, WordML and DocBook documents. Then you can copy files with fo, wml and dbx extensions into the C:\Temp and take formatted equivalents.

ActiType can be used as a stand alone application or part of the document management system.

ActiType runs in two modes: GUI and console. In GUI mode it has a simple user interface. With user interface you can configure formatting rules and view formatting log. The GUI mode intended for desktop use. In console mode ActiType reads configuration from configuration file and monitors configured folders. You can use console mode to setup formatting service. Run service at computer start-up without user log on.

ActiType is written in Python and it uses wxPython as a GUI library. It is a platform independent application. As an XSLT processor ActiType uses 4Suite.

The main window of ActiType consists of two panes. The left pane shows all currently available hot folders with its rules and the right one contains the properties and log history of the selected folder. You can see the properties or log history of the folder by clicking on it. Properties tab shows configuration parameters of folder, and log tab shows the formatting history, where you can see the formatting logs with time stamps.
